Cellular Based Digital Signage Can Alleviate Most Network Security Concerns

Anytime there is a hard wired network in place there is always a concern about security. This is especially true in locations that collect credit card information, health care facilities, banks etc….

Although most IT departments are very adept at keeping their networks secure there is still always that chance that the network might be compromised in some way. When a traditional digital signage network is deployed, it usually taps into the host company’s network and shares bandwidth and in some cases equipment. Even though a digital signage system is normally a passive display system, with the growth of interactive kiosk’s you now have more of a risk of having that shared network compromised.

A cellular based digital signage network can alleviate a lot of those headaches and worries. Yes it is true that the probability of a digital signage network that has been installed and maintained by professionals is extremely small, but as a former network administrator I know that worry is always there when you share your network. A cellular based digital signage network does not touch the existing in-house network nor does it share bandwidth with that host network. There is not only a virtual separation between the two networks, there is a physical separation as well and that is the beauty of cellular networks.

By plugging your digital sign into a power outlet and accessing the web-based interface, you can transmit your images and data to all of your digital signs across the network via a 3G wireless connection. This is especially good where privacy issues are a priority. As technology continues to evolve we will probably see more and more cellular based digital signage networks deployed and even traditional hard wired networks retrofitted to take advantage of these new stand alone systems
