This is a story of two businesses who decided to install digital signs throughout various sections of their stores as well as the check out area. Both figured they would need 9 high definition digital signs for the new in-store advertising system to be effective.
Store owner number one contacted his IT department head and after much arguing convinced IT to install the digital signs on their current network. (It still amazes me that the owner of a business has to argue with his IT employee to do what he wants –IT people have a GOD complex – I can say that as I used to be IT department head) Back to our story; Now that IT is in reluctant agreement, new cables will have to be run, additional routers will need to be added to the network and of course when will these components be installed so there is minimal disruption of business? A timeline is established and you are finally ready to go. It has been a couple weeks now since you started this process and finally you have 9 new digital signs running your latest advertising to your customers.
Meanwhile across town business owner number two opted to go with a cellular based digital signage system. This seemed to make the most sense and her IT department head thought it was a great idea because his network would not be disrupted or added to. Your accountant likes the idea because the estimated install time will be a fraction of what a traditional network install is and overtime expenses are held in check. The big day arrives and your 9 new digital screens are here. You have decided to hang 3 on the wall but the other six are going to be on stands so you can move them around the store. Six installers go to work and by lunch your new cellular based digital signage network is up and running. After all, the only thing they needed to do once the monitor was placed was to plug in the power. No cables, no routers, no taking out ceiling tiles to run cables and no wall fishes.
Store owner number two has his network up and running within days of making his decision. The only real holdup was the time it took to deliver the screens. The marketing department accessed the user control panel and uploaded their creative work to each monitor media player and the screens came to life.
Yes this story is oversimplified but it does get the point across. Cellular based digital signage networks are easy to install, they don’t interfere with current networks, there are no bandwidth issues with existing networks and you have a much shorter installation timeline. Cellular and wireless based digital signage networks provide an easy solution for those seeking to enter into the world digital signage based out of home advertising.
